This guide will show you how to set up streaming VRSL DMX into VRChat.
Untrusted Links
A video player will not necessarily play any link. In VRChat, media links from websites that are not within VRChat's service whitelist will not play unless the viewers have the "Allow Untrusted URLs" option checked in their settings. Many won't, so unless for a very specific reason, just use one of the services listed below.
Streaming Instructions
1. Prepare DMX Environment
Prepare the following and ensure they are working correctly:
- DMX software of choice
- VRSL Gridnode
- Streaming Software of choice
2. Adjust Output Resolution
It is recommended to set your output settings (not your canvas settings) to 720p 30fps instead of 1080p or anything higher, since VRChat video players will automatically downsize any stream or video to 720p 30fps.
3. Choose your streaming service
Service | Pros | Cons |
---|---|---|
Twitch |

Youtube | Same as above | Same as above |
VRCDN |

|
We strongly recommend VRCDN. Its only 3$ a month, and a very good deal if you intend to run a lot of events in VRChat or other VR Platforms. The consistent bitrate is also very valuable, as it minimizes the amount of noise VRSL has to deal with from compression.
4. Start The Stream & Link the Player
Enter the stream link into the video player's URL box. If the venue has multiple options for DMX mapping settings--such as Club Orion--ensure that they are set to match the video format you are giving it.
5. Tips for improving stream quality
- Increase the bitrate of the stream as much as possible, as it improves the responsiveness of the lights, and reduces compression artifacting.
